Castletown, Langness & Fort Island – coast, wildlife & history

A great mix of coastal walking and wildlife,with the medieval and modern history of the Isle of Man. Beginning at Castle Rushen, we follow the coast past Hango Hill, through Derbyhaven and onto Langness to see the Iron Age and Norse promontory forts, the landmark tower, the Provider stone, and then on to the medieval chapel and Derby fort on St Michael’s Isle. Look out for birds of the shore and sea.

The Northern Ridge – Snaefell summit to Ramsey

We head to the top of Snaefell the easy way by the Snaefell Mountain Railway (additional ticket needed, cost not included)–or get off at the Bungalow to walk to the top; then head from the highest point on the Island along the rounded ridge to Clagh Ouyr and North Barrule, and on to Ramsey past Ballure Reservoir and Plantation. A linear walk over some of the Isle of Man’s wild hill and moorland landscapes with views over hills and the northern plain.

Starting from Dalby Mountain Nature Reserve car park we pass Kerroodhoo Plantation as we head to Eary Cushlin and then on to the Early Christian chapel at Lag ny Keeilley. We walk the lonely coastal tracks and enjoy spectacular views down the west coast of the Isle of Man exploring one of the most atmospheric and isolated chapels on the Island.
