Celts, Norse & fort – The Braaid & Santon Broogh

We visit the impressive Celtic and Norse farmstead at the Braaid; then walk through Chibbanagh Plantation to the medieval fort known as Santon Broogh – probably a motte (timber ‘castle’) site.

Preparing for your walk
Moderate difficulty with steepish rises in the Plantation. A mix of forest and country road walking. About 9 km and 180m height gained. Please wear footwear suitable for footpaths and forest tracks. Bring clothing appropriate to the weather on the day and any food, drink and support equipment (e.g. walking poles, gaiters, insect repellent, sun cream etc.) which you find useful.
