Hill Skills (Mountain Training)

Award Description

The Hill & Mountain Skills scheme is a great way to develop your personal skills and confidence in all elements of hill and mountain walking. From planning a coastal walk to navigating in complex terrain, these courses are an ideal opportunity to learn the basics and enjoy the countryside. THIS IS NOT THE
HILL AND MOORLAND LEADER SCHEME.

Course details
An Isle of Man course ideal for gaining the skills, confidence and inspiration to take your own first steps in hill walking – and add some fun, safely!

Using a Port Erin location as our base for an initial indoor look at the course content, we then head out to the Meayll Peninsula for a first practical session. The rest of the course takes place in the stunning hills, moorland and coastal landscape in the west and north of the Isle of Man. You’ll see real variety of landscape over the two days and learn a lot about the countryside around us.

The fee covers all instruction, course materials and 2 days full of sharing and learning in the outdoors at an enjoyable pace. We’ll supply full details of the course, what to bring, what you won’t need and joining instructions on booking. Contact us for advice about clothing, footwear and other equipment especially if you are just starting out: we may be able to help out and can advise on the choices.

The course starts at 9am on the first day and finishes on the second day by no later than 5pm. Though this is not a residential course, we have partners who can offer a full travel package to the Isle of Man if you want to make a longer holiday of it and we can add in some guided walks in spectacular locations! Or ask for advice about travel and accommodation options.

The course needs a minimum of 2 people to attend. Minimum age 10. Registration with Mountain Training (England) included.

Course tutor: Andrew Foxon
Venue: Port Erin Methodist Church, Station Road, Port Erin IM9 6LN
