The Herring Way – Peel to Castletown

The Castle challenge: from Peel Castle to Castle Rushen through some superb southern landscapes following an old route linking the ports of Peel and Castletown. This linear walk leads us alongside the River Neb from its mouth at Peel Harbour then along the line of the old Peel–Douglas railway line to Glenfaba Mill. After walking onto the shoulder of Peel Hill we follow the coastal footpath past Knockaloe and onto the waterfall at Glen Maye. Our path goes up Glen Rushen past mine workings and then reaches the foot of South Barrule. We follow the “Whiskey Run” and head for the Silverburn, passing Rushen Abbey on our way to our destination at Castle Rushen in Castletown.
